Taylor moves away from Isabella and collects materials to use for the traps they are building. Taylor’s heart pounds as she hears Isabella call to her, she notes the terror in her voice. Taylor runs towards the source of the noise and finds Isabella covered. “What do I do?” Taylor calls to her, she does not think well under pressure.
In a blink of an eye Taylor is hit by an arrow and a cannon goes off, signalling her death. Isabella removes the net covering her and walks towards Taylor. “I’m sorry,” she whispers as she closes Taylor’s eyes. Isabella removes the arrow on Taylor’s chest and puts a flower on her hand. She then walks away before Taylor’s body is recovered by the Capitol, finishes her traps and returns to Danny.
Isabella and Taylor walked for about ten meters until they began to set up traps. “Try to look around for stuff we can use to set up traps, they should come from around here so that it wouldn’t be too noticeable. Don’t go too far, though. Let’s meet back here in an hour or so.” Isabella said as she started walking towards the right picking up vines, branches, leaves and small logs.
Isabella set up some traps turning vines into ropes and camouflaging them as if they weren’t there. However, she made sure to remember where the traps were, knowing that if she’d done them correctly, she’d be dead instantly. After a few minutes, she is suddenly hit in the head and is covered by a net. “TAYLOR! HELP!!”
Taylor squatted over the damp grass as she nibbled on the food Danny gave her. “I thought it would shield us from the storm, it would of if it is was a normal storm. I guess the game makers really wanted us out of the grass.” She sighed and put her bottom to the ground. “I guess we should do inventory, I’m not sure how much we’ve got left.”
She emptied the bags and sorted the contents on the floor. “We’ve got enough weapons,” she laughed as she looked to the tall pile, “If we keep to our portions the food will last for another 3 days. Water is the problem.”
Isabella held the dried fruits in her hand and sighed, “The game makers made that storm to injure us, and when we found the cave for shelter, they destroyed it. I haven’t heard much cannons go off and maybe they want a tribute dead. They want to show us that they’re in power to control and do anything they want. Maybe someone tried to break the rules or something.” She tried to analyze how they thought, trying to stay one step ahead. But she was confused as well, not sure what to do.
Taylor emptied their bags and checked their inventory. They had enough food for a few more days and more than enough weapons. “Water is easy to find. We just have to look for where most plants grow,” she said as she ate some fruit. “Danny, you should stay on guard while Taylor and I’ll do a perimeter check and set some traps.” —— OOC: Taylor reply to the next para I post.
Danny tried to entertain himself while the girls were out but they were gone for a while and so he started to get worried. He hadn’t heard any cannons but he doubted his hearing when he was up against the storm. Eventually he could hear Isabella’s familiar footsteps coming in to the cave. He smiled warmly at her when she entered. ”how are you gorgeous?”
Isabella had no luck in finding nuts so she gathered firewood to cook the squirrel instead. She returned back to the cave welcomed by Danny’s smile. ”How are you gorgeous?” he asked. She smiled back and sat beside him as she said “I’m doing good. How about you?” She arranged the firewood and lit a fire to cook the squirrel, trusting the hail storm to cover the smoke that escapes the cave. Then she looked at him and saw how wounded he was. She got worried and started searching their belongings for anything to treat him. “What happened to you back there? Who did you fight?”
Danny lay silently on the cold hard floor and listened intently as the storm still attacked outside. The thick stone creating the roof of the cave blocked any wind or thunderous drops but the storm still slipped in through the small entrance. Danny lifted himself on his elbows and then tried to sit up so that his back was on the cave’s wall. He ached all over and he could tell that something funny was going on with the bones located in his right wrist. Danny rubbed it, trying to sooth the pain, but the agony grew stronger. He inwardly swore because he was right-handed. Danny let out a breath didn’t know he had been holding and closed his eyes until the girls returned.
Isabella tried her best to be strong. Danny was badly injured and she still wasn’t sure of what Taylor is capable of. The hail storm was still ongoing and there was no sign of other tributes. She saw Taylor shivering from the cold winds and noticed that she was too. “Maybe we should-” and then from the corner of her eye, she saw a shadow and immediately loaded her arrow and shot at it. She waited for a cannon to see if it was a tribute but there was none. Slowly, they walked where she shot and instead of a tribute, they found a dead squirrel. “Well, we have meat. Look around if it kept some nuts around and then let’s meet back at the cave.”
Danny stumbled to the faint sound of familiar voices that were getting swept away in the heavy wind storm. Blood from the vigorous battle that took place between Danny and Josh had seeped through the thin fabric so it was plainly visible on Danny’s damaged skin. Danny couldn’t deny Josh’s character, skill and will to survive, he hated to think what the outcome would have been had Josh been at full strength.
As he kept walking strands of tall grass stuck on the sticky residue that covered Danny’s body. Fatigue tore at him but he stayed alert, through the heavy wind and rainfall Danny sensed another person in the surroundings. Danny’s quick thinking and utter strength saved him. “Taylor, Issy” Danny uttered in relief and exasperation his eyes falling intently upon each girls face.
"Danny!" Isabella screamed as she saw his faint figure. She ran up to him while Taylor quickly followed behind. They both carried him by their shoulders as Isabella motioned to their right to a small cave that could protect them from the hailstorm. "Let’s get him inside and then check the area for other lurking tributes." she said. They both laid him down on the cave floor and gave him some water and food. "Just stay here, ok? Stay hidden." she seriously said to Danny as she got her arrows and went back into the hailstorm.
Taylor sighed quietly, packed their things with Issy and then when she left followed after her. They ran through the grass, getting struck with the small falling rocks. Taylor’s legs tired as they stumbled over rocks and her body became sore with bruises from the rocks. There was no way this was natural. Taylor thought.
"Start running." Isabella said. They continued to be hit by rocks while doing so but they didn’t stop running. After a while, their bodies started to get sore and they slowed down a bit. "I think this is a hailstorm. We had some of these back in District 2. We have to get out of here now!" Isabella said while she tried to shield herself from the rocks. "This isn’t good. The rocks are increasing in size and quantity." she thought. As they were running, they noticed a hovercraft go back outside from the arena. "Someone must’ve died from the storm. Or this may be a trap of the gamemakers for more deaths and clashes." she thought as she reached for a throwing knife and hid it near her hand for easy reach. After a while, Taylor and Isabella saw a figure up ahead. “Stay alert. That might be another tribute.” Isabella said and Taylor nodded in reply. However, instead of an enemy tribute, they saw Danny, looking like he came from a battle.
Danny shook both girls furiously and shouted instructions at them over the howling wind. “Can you guys pack the stuff up? I’m going to find josh!” he yelled over his shoulder as he raced off into the grass.
Isabella woke up to strong winds and Danny’s shouting. It took her a while to see what was happening but when she did, she moved fast. Danny ran out to look for Josh while she stayed with Taylor and they packed up. When they were done, they went out in the same direction of Danny to hopefully catch up with him. “Stay on guard, this might be a trap of the gamemakers.” she said to Taylor as she wore her knife vest. After a while, some rocks started falling on their heads.
Danny took a piece of an interesting fruit he hadn’t seen before and nibbled on it slowly. “I was mean’t to be on a diet but it didn’t work out that well.” He smirked. They all silently sat in their small grass covered shelter and took small bites of their dried fruit. Outside Danny heard the wind pick up and the grass start blowing wildly so he moved the tarp to cover them better.
"I have a feeling the Gamemakers are up to something…" Isabella said as she finished eating. She laid back down and began to close her eyes, "Wake me up if you need anything." she said. Then wind started blowing furiously…
Danny looked in the parachute also and the food definitely tempted him. “Maybe we could just have one small thing?” He asked and just to add to the effect his stomach grumbled loudly.
Isabella laughed, “Maybe you should eat a lot instead. Weren’t you supposed to be on a diet the past few weeks to prepare for this?” she said questioningly as she took a piece of dried fruit and ate. “Just eat, guys. We’ll go hunting tomorrow.”
Danny agreed and took off his backpack. He looked around for a clump of dense, heavy grass. He walked over to it and sort of made it into a small, non protective shelter. He let the others go in first and covered them in grass and tarps so they were warm and camouflaged then he went in himself. He lay down next to Isabella and held her in his arms. They could see every thing outside so it wouldn’t be hard to keep watch from on their little shelter. “I’ll keep first watch”
Isabella nodded and moved closer to Danny. “I’ll take second, then.” Just as she was about to close her eyes, she heard a soft sound and immediately became alert and took out a knife, but instead of a tribute, a silver parachute landed in front of their makeshift home. She looked at the others and took the parachute, opened it and saw a basket of bread and some dried fruits. “Do you guys want to eat it now or save it for later?”
Danny scrunched his face up as he looked at the bright lights in the sky. So many faces appeared and when they disappeared Danny knew that their memory would soon fade. Not only for all the districts watching but the game makers would also forget the victims of their first game. Danny took Issy’s hand and looked down at her sad eyes. She held a face of steel and Danny admired her for her bravery.
As the anthem played and the tributes looked up at the sky, the faces of dead tributes glimmered- District 1 male, Xander , District 7 male, District 8 male, District 8 female, District 10 male, District 11 male, District 11 female, Calliope, Josh Freeman, Pandora, Mia and Lilly. She closed her eyes for a while as she remembered all their dead and bloody bodies on the cornucopia. "13 dead, 10 tributes left." she thought, but immediately took the idea out of her head. She remembered that their every moved was being watched so she tried to look brave, but if someone looked closely, they could see that her eyes were full of grief. When she felt Danny hold her hand, she looked at him and gave a sad smile. And as the anthem ended, the group continued to walk.
Danny watched as they tried to find the way to water. He knew he would be of little help so he stayed out of the way. “So we just keep walking and check for moistness in a while then?” He said and as others agreed he kept walking forward along the non-existent path.
Isabella held her bow and fastened her knife vest to make sure that if they met anyone, they’d be prepared. Since they were tracking the sneakier ones and lost their trail, she was determined to get through the day. And if she was thinking the same way they did, they’d look out for water. The group continued to walk in the same direction for a few more minutes until Isabella sat down to check the soil, “We’re closer. Stay on guard.” she said.
Danny followed after Taylor and caught her as she stumbled. “Are you okay?” He asked her but she just shook him off. Danny shrugged and kept walking along the path, the others following silently behind. They kept walking along the path until they noticed that the person who’s trail it was had started to be sneakier and the track became harder to see.
Isabella furrowed her brow as the trail began to get smaller. They kept moving forward until she stopped and said, “We lost them. How about we search for water instead? Maybe they’d be there. It would be easier anyway. We just have to look out for loose soil, mud and more grass.”
Danny stood while the others looked at the trampled grass. He was never very good at that stuff and he had no idea how Taylor could have worked that out so he stepped back out of the way. But from what she said it seemed like a good idea. “Well I guess that would be better. I was thinking the big guys but now I think this is a better option. We could over power the others but someone sneaky is bigger threat probably… What do you think?” he said to Issy
Isabella thought for a minute and then replied, “It would be best to get rid of the smarter, more sneakier ones but that would be tougher because they’d be harder to catch. Who knows? Maybe someone’s watching us now. As for the bigger ones, they’d put up a heavier fight but since we’re a lot, it’d be easier to overpower them.” She looked around and examined the ground, the sneakier ones were clearly heading for food and water while the heavier ones were just running. “We can try our best to put traps around already both for tributes and for food, and then we could follow the lighter tracks since those people have the best strategy, being able to look for a water source and food.”
Danny waited and made sure that Issy and Josh were okay before he started slowly making his way to the other side. The water refreshed Danny as the dried blood washed from his skin. The water was a dark blue colour and it was so deep that the bottom dissolved in darkness.
Due to the buoyancy of their suits, it was easy for Isabella to swim, and before they knew it, they were all able to make it back to shore, nearing the forest. They hiked up slowly and swiftly as Isabella took her bow and arrows out for defense and so that they could hopefully catch some food before sundown.
Danny picked up his backpack and looked through it, there was going to be enough room. “They’ll be full but it’ll work. And I’ll put Taylor’s Canopy/Tarp thing over my bag so it’ll float and also in case it’s not waterproof.” Danny picked up the stuff and started packing it into his bag. Once he was finished he picked up the bag and put it on his back, then took his trident in his hand and waited for the others.
Isabella nodded and quickly started adding stuff into her backpack. In the same time, she examined it’s contents- a canopy, long piece of rope, an empty water bottle plus iodine and a box of matches. She organized her backpack in a way that the weapons were in easy reach in case of an attack. When she was ready, she stood up and looked over to the others, “You guys ready?”
Danny followed Taylor’s gaze to were the tributes tracks were. The grass looked like a good place to start but someone could easily sneak up on them and even though they have the numbers in a flash one of them could be dead. “I suggest the forest because it is the safer option.”
"Let’s go then." Isabella said. They were halfway through walking the island when she remembered, "Will we be able to swim carrying all these stuff?"
Danny was glad that Taylor had the courage to approach them. They had talked before the games and Danny felt he could trust her, she was also an alright fighter. “I’ll take the whip” Danny called to Josh, for he had used one before. Together Danny could see that the four of them had a lot of useful supplies and weapons. “Well I saw a few people go to the forest and a few to the tall grass over there. So we should go to one of those and also stick close to the lake for water.”
Isabella looked over to each side, examining their choices. “Well judging by the amount of plants, there should be a good amount of water and animals to hunt. It would be easier to move around in the forest, but easier to hunt in the tall grasses. What do you guys think?” she replied.
Once Danny was confident he had everything he needed he made his way towards Isabella and Josh. They each had a big amount of supplies and looked well prepared. Danny rushed to hug Isabella and saw the cut on her arm, which he frowned at. He then patted josh on the back and stepped away to overlook the bloodbath. It was a mess, blood everywhere and dead bodies across the sand. He then saw the girl again. “I think she wants to be part of this alliance.” Danny said signaling towards her.
Isabella shrugged at her wound as it stopped bleeding and smiled when Danny hugged her. Josh, Danny and her were all looking around the cornucopia and saw the District 1 female, Taylor Whiting, standing there looking at them. “I think she wants to be part of this alliance.” Danny said. Isabella walked towards her and talked to her for a few minutes. She walked back smiling, “This is Taylor and she’d love to be part of our alliance.”
As soon as the horn blew, signifying the start of the games, Isabella quickly ran out of her platform, making a beeline for the throwing knives ahead of her. As her hand reached out for one vest, she was met by the district 10 male who was in an offensive position. But because she was sly, she was able to get a knife and threw it directly at his neck, at a specific pressure point so that he died easily. She quickly wore the knife vest and headed to the heart of the cornucopia to get the bow and arrows that she had been eyeing from the start. She bumped into Tessa as she ran and she gave her a sad smile as she swung her arrows over her shoulder and looked over to the cornucopia. There were bodies of dead people everywhere, blood was gushing out from wounds and she could still hear moans of those slowly dying. Since she was distracted, the district 11 male slashed a cut on her arm. Isabella winced as she quickly turned around and positioned an arrow for his head, killing him. Then she saw that most of the tributes have either died or swam away, all those who were left on the island were Danny, Josh and herself. She looked at her surroundings and gathered the blowgun and a large backpack. She stuffed some survival knives in the backpack to make space for her arrow on the left side of her vest, easily in reach, and so that she could hold the blowgun easily. She then walked towards Danny and Josh who were gathering their own materials.
I was awakened by several bangs on the door as my eyes shot open. I look over to the clock and saw that it is 9am. I stood up to open the door and saw my mentor and stylists. “It’s a big, big day! You better get ready!” they said. "Right. It’s the day of the Games." I say to myself as I tried to smile. I took a quick shower and then I am quickly prepped by my prep team. They said that I still needed to look presentable in the Games. I took a huge breath as they ‘fix’ my face, tie my hair in a pony tail and put me in spandex. “Do you know how to swim? Judging by your outfit, I think you guys might be swimming in there.” said Raina, my head stylist. My eyes widen as I hear this. “No..” I mumble. "Are they trying to kill me this early in the Games? Damn them." I think. “WHAT? Why not?!” said my mentor. “I never learned how to swim. My uh, parents tried drowning me in a pail of water before so I got scared of it.” I replied. “Oh, I’m so sorry. Well, you’re a fast learner anyway! Good luck!” Raina said as she patted me on my head. After we had breakfast, we were escorted to the rooftop where some pecekeepers were waiting for us. They blindfolded me as they brought me to the arena and injected a tracker in my right arm. I winced in pain as they did this but tried my best not to be too loud as I was aware of the other tributes in the same area as I was. After a few minutes, they removed the blindfolds and brought us to separate rooms. I was met by Raina in the room as she put on my boots and fastened my golden locket around my neck. As she did this, a booming voice called out, “Tributes, please proceed to the glass tubes.” I began to feel nervous as the voice said this and looked over to Raina. She smiled sadly and nodded towards the tube as I gave her one last hug. I entered the glass tube and it quickly enclosed around me. I closed my eyes and tried to calm myself as the platform began to rise. As a few seconds passed, I smelled water. I shot my eyes open and began to panic, but remembering that it wouldn’t hep me, I gained my composure and thought of our plans. When the platform began to slow down, I looked around and saw the other tributes. 60 seconds..
Directly in front of me were some throwing knives and a bow and arrow. "Maybe they weren’t thinking of killing me after all." I thought. I searched for Danny and saw him looking at me. I caught his eye and gave him a sad smile and a nod.
I looked to the tributes on my right and left- district 8 and 11’s female tributes. They were barely present during training and I thought I could kill them easily if they harmed me.
I tried to think of other plans if I survived the night. I just wished Rye, Jake and Aunt Lilia wouldn’t forget about me if I wouldn’t.
